OK, let's play the silly game of “would you think of the children”: What threats/weaknesses were identified? What options of tackling those were considered? And who is lobbying for this?
COI disclaimer: I am a “young European who uses social media” and I feel like DSA is needed for sovereignity and market regulation, not for “the children”, I never noticed the EU doing much in terms of mental health support or cyberbullying and I actively oppose #ChatControl and age verification (the last two points), as the current ideas are directly clashing with right to privacy.
Also, a thing that could protect “the children” would be GDPR, if data minimisation was actually enforced and platforms wouldn't just take collecting everything as their legitimate interest. #EC is directly responsible for enfocing those, right?
Please, stop appealing to emotions to push stuff. That helps noone.
