Loops Beta 12 Is Here

Beta 12 is the biggest release we have shipped yet.

New discovery tools, real creator analytics, multi-account support, video embeds, and a long list of things people have been asking for. All of it built in the open, with no investors, no ads, and no shareholders to answer to.

Here is what is new.

Starter Kits now talk to Mastodon

The Starter Kits page
Starter Kits fix the cold start problem. You sign up, you follow a curated kit, and your feed comes alive in seconds instead of you staring at an empty screen.

In Beta 12 they reach further. Starter Kits are now compatible with Mastodon, so a kit made on Loops shows up across the fediverse, and kits from other servers work right here on Loops. We also refetch remote kits once every 24 hours, so the accounts inside a kit stay current instead of going stale the day after they were published. Search an existing kit and it pulls the latest accounts automatically.

Consent first, like always. Every account in a kit chose to be there. We do not scrape, we do not auto add, and we do not build lists you never agreed to join. If you want to spin one up for your community, you can try it now.

Vet new members with Curated Onboarding

Open registration is a blunt tool. Curated Onboarding gives admins a real gate instead. New sign-ups go through manual review before they get in, so you decide who joins your instance rather than leaving it to chance.

Build your own application form with custom questions, mark each one optional or required, and ask whatever actually matters for your community. Once someone fills out the form and verifies their email, you get notified that an application is ready to review. Approve them and they get notified they are in.

It is moderation that happens at the door, not after the damage is done. Healthier communities start with who you let in.

Real numbers with Studio Analytics

Run more than one account? You can now switch between them without logging out and back in every time. Personal account, project account, community account, all a tap away. It is a small thing that makes a big difference if you wear more than one hat around here.

Video Embeds, and yes, you are looking at one

Video Embeds are opt in, and you can mass enable or disable them across all your public videos with a single tap. Drop a Loops video into a blog, a docs page, or anywhere that takes an embed. Here is one running live, right here in this post.

Under the hood

The stuff you may not see but definitely feel:

• The video player now handles Playlists
• The hashtag sync pipeline auto tags videos as AI or Ads when they carry the relevant hashtags
• Search now fetches remote videos
• The share modal uses ActivityIntents
• Remote videos now store or generate proper thumbnails
• Blocks got stronger. Content from blocked accounts is properly restricted, Block activities are sent and handled across federation, and the max block limit is now 500
• Several admin dashboard pages got cleaned up
• More federation improvements across the board

Hmm, thinking of getting rid of my Loops account. Nothing against @dansup , Loops is great after all. However the two main reasons I tried it was one, a desire to TikTok but Federated, and the second was to provide me with a solution to one of the biggest problems with Friendica, it can't handle media, you can't upload video or audio files, but you can link or embed them. Now however, this is my home, although I am looking for someone hosting Wafrn instances, and it handles media just fine. Well, I do wish alt text was optional on videos, it doesn't make much sense on video, assuming there's audio, but I doubt you can make the alt text requirement change based on the kind of media.
So, since I can post short videos here, why bother with a short video service? I suppose it would make sense if'n it served as my primary social media, or at least a significant part of it, but its not, videos are just another way I express m'self depending on my mood and the subject. I will say I am considering a PeerTube, but not sure, I could see m'self doing some long form videos now and then, but likely that'd be around one a month at best if that.
I suppose that will be something for the future, for now, its a matter of making things a bit leaner, a bit more organized, I like things lean and organized when possible.

The WHO has declared the ebola outbreak in the African countries of Congo and Uganda to be a "public health emergency of international concern":

And here's how the UN has stated it, which may be a little easier to read, but this part is hard to understand:

> WHO warned that the outbreak is likely larger than currently detected, pointing to clusters of unexplained deaths, a high positivity rate among tested samples and limited understanding of transmission patterns. At least four deaths among healthcare workers have also raised concerns over infection prevention measures in health facilities.

The agency stressed that the outbreak poses a risk to neighbouring countries due to high population mobility, trade links and ongoing humanitarian challenges in affected regions.

No international travel restrictions needed

Despite the risks, WHO does not recommend restrictions on international travel or trade. Instead, it urged countries to strengthen surveillance, preparedness and community engagement, while ensuring accurate public information.

Je suis sans filtre. C'est comme ça et je n'ai pas envie de faire des efforts pour devoir m'adapter à vous. Je n'ai pas envie d'être bien élevée. Je n'ai pas envie d'être polie pour vous faire plaisir. J'ai 46 ans. Je me fous royalement d'être détestée par vous !

Il n'y a pas de systeme de protection inter-instances parce qu'il y a des instances sur le #Fediverse qui ne se positionnent pas contre le #Génocide à #Gaza. Pour moi, elles se rendent complices de Génocide. Car je crois encore dans la justice humaine.

Nous sommes une cinquantaine de personnes ici à défendre les palestinien.nes, à leur donner de la visibilité non stop, à les défendre des agressions quotidiennes qu'iels reçoivent, des restrictions de certaines instances qui font en sorte de les rendre invisibles car iels dérangent.

Mais grâce à Gaza Verified et toutes les personnes qui luttent depuis l'été 2025, nous avons deja sauvé une vie. Et nous pourrons en sauver des centaines d'autres.

Le Monde Diplomatique de mai 2026 a publié cet article dont l’auteur est le Secrétaire Général de JURDI et maître de conférence Benjamin Fiorini.

Sont rappelées les obligations internationales les plus impératives des Etats, en particulier de la France, de prévenir le crime de génocide quand ils ont « connaissance » de « risque sérieux » de l’existence d’actes génocidaires parfaitement documentés dans le TPO de Gaza. Il est rappelé n’a pas satisfait à cette obligation en ne mettant pas tous ses « moyens raisonnablement à disposition » pour prévenir ce crime. Elle n’a, par exemple, pas exercé les pressions ni pris les sanctions à la hauteur de ses obligations et moyens.

L’article fait état des actions de contentieux entreprises par #JURDi pour dénoncer l' »inaction complice » de la #France et des institutions européennes à cet égard.
