In the end, this climate catastrophe will self-correct by destroying most of human civilization including almost all coastal cities. Then will wipe out the fossil fuel based economy and kick our species all the way back to a remnant probably returning to traditional tribal living. Fossil fuels may still be used (as coal was by some tribes where wood was scarce and coal existed as outcrops) but there simply won't be enough people-or enough uses given no industry beyond craft workshops-to continue producing geologically dangerous amounts of CO2.
Complete extinction is unlikely, because humans as a whole are far, far more adaptable than any one person or even one culture usually is. It is not however impossible, expecially if conditions of the collapse favor a hornet's nest of disease.
This is GOING to happen, it is NOT going to be stopped. How have people reacted to the warnings? By electing people like Trump.
